Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer and it is caused by the prolonged exposure to Asbestos. According to the latest research it has been confirmed that Asbestos is also responsible for many other types of cancers like gallbladder, kidney, throat and gastrointestinal cancer. Mesothelioma cancer affects the mesothelium. Mesothelium is the membrane lining of abdomen and lungs. Mesothelioma cancer is difficult to diagnose. It takes 20 to 50 years to develop. In Pleurectomy-decortication, the diseased memebrane lining is removed. It spares the lung. In Extrapleural pneumonectomy, the lung is removed and also the diseased lining of heart, chest and a portion of diaphragm. Different types of treatments and surgery is combined by the doctors to deal with the aggressive asbestos cancer.
